It will be interesting to see how accurate my 1968 Sad-V replay turns out. Still, I kind of see their point with the 50/50 method. That’s true but in a game like the APBA Master game if you roll doubles there is a good chance the stud reliever may not alter the result. They contend that if they bring in their stud reliever their is only a 50% chance his card will play a part in the at bat. Some gamers don’t care for the 50/50 method. Pitchers also have “X” readings on their cards to reflect the strength of the defense behind them. A batter can be normal power vs a left hand pitcher and weak versus a right hand pitcher and vice-versa. A home run reading off the pitcher’s card is changed to a single versus a batter with a “W” rating. Batters are rated with an “N” for normal power and a “W” for weak power. Pitchers who allowed more home runs will have this reflected on their cards. Strat does try to control home runs off the pitcher’s card. I am not sure how this will affect double and triple totals or if the goal is for the pitcher card to help reproduce their actual doubles and triples allowed. Strat includes extra base hits on their pitcher cards. As discussed previously Strat Super Advanced employs ballpark effects which are also determined with a roll of the d20. A reading could be single 1-7, lineout to short 8-20. To further make the results more accurate Strat employs a split roll with a 20 sided die. Of course all columns are not equal as a dice roll of “7” has the potential to come up six times while snake eyes and boxcars just once each. Each column results in 11 different readings, 2 thru 12 from the two red dice. It is critical you read the result off of the proper column depending on the pitcher-batter match-up. One group of three columns versus right hand pitchers or batters and one group of three columns versus left hand pitchers or batters. There are two different groups of columns on each Advance card. A roll of 1 to 3 on the white die results on a reading off the batter’s card and a roll of 4-6 from the white die results in a reading off the pitcher’s card.

For example, I roll one white die and two red dice.

I wanted to discuss pitcher-batter interaction. The end result is to share how each game’s mechanics work. I have played over 200 games of each of these games during my 1968 SAD-V replay and my 1971 APBA Master game and enjoy both immensely. The end result is not to determine that one game is better than the other. Continuing the series comparing the APBA Baseball Master game with the Strat-O-Matic Super Advanced baseball game.
